The American champion Optimistic of Being 'in a good place' for the upcoming Winter Olympics

American skiing icon Lindsey Vonn has declared she will be "in a good place" for the Milan-Cortina Olympics, on the back of securing a place on the rostrum for the fourth instance in five World Cup events.

The 41-year-old, who achieved a milestone by becoming the most senior racer to win a downhill World Cup winner, finished third in the super-G in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This marked her one hundred and forty-second career World Cup podium finish.

Strong Return in the French Alps

Competing at the French Alps resort for the first time in eight years, Vonn crossed the line in a time of 1:20.60. She was just over a third of a second behind victor Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson taking the runner-up spot.

"I was slightly lacking enough direction on the first jump," Vonn said. "After that, I skied well. I'm pleased with my performance today, in contrast to in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was too conservative."

This performance was her second top-three finish at Val d'Isere over the weekend, having also taken third in the downhill race on Saturday.

A Remarkable Comeback from Injury

Vonn ended her career in February 2019 due to ongoing knee problems. However, she returned to racing in December 2024 after a major knee surgery.

With just over six weeks remaining until the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, which are scheduled for February 6th to the 22nd, Vonn's performances are timely.

She already possesses one gold and two Olympic bronze medals in her collection and is firmly on track to represent the United States at the next Olympics.

"When we get to Cortina, I will be fully ready," the athlete confirmed.

Aiming for Further Glory

In addition to her Olympic ambitions, Vonn is also aiming to increase the four World Cup titles she has accumulated over a career spanning two decades.

She presently enjoys a substantial lead at the summit of the overall downhill standings and is sitting in fifth place in the super-G World Cup table.

This current World Cup campaign includes a nine more events scheduled before the circuit finale in Kvitfjell, Norway on March 21st, 2026.
