The man linked to the recent fatal shooting incident at Brown University reportedly died by suicide on Thursday night, per officials.
The discovery was made at a storage location on Thursday evening, as reported from an official source. This suspect is also suspected of killing a Massachusetts Institute of Technology professor at a residence in the Boston area.
“He took his own life tonight,” announced the chief of the Providence police department during a press conference.
The police official named the individual as Claudio Nevis Valenti, a 48-year-old individual enrolled at Brown University.
This development comes after a significant police presence at a storage facility in Salem, New Hampshire earlier on Thursday. Witnesses described seeing multiple armed officers converging on the premises.
The manhunt for the shooter had restarted on Monday after the attorney general's office revealed that a individual detained on Sunday had been released. This development was acknowledged to be likely to cause fresh anxiety for the local community.
City leadership emphasized that while the release was a disappointment, the overall case was not paused unabated.
The two students who lost their lives in the attack have been identified. They are Ella Cook, a second-year student from Alabama who was served as vice-president for a campus political group, and MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, an international student in his first year who dreamed of becoming a neurosurgeon.
Authorities are expected to hold a press conference to provide further details on the suspect's death.
