More than 36,000 Sudanese have escaped after fall of El Fasher to Rapid Support Forces, states UN agency

Over 36,000 people have evacuated from Sudan's Kordofan area east of Darfur since Saturday, as reported by the UN's migration agency.

The important central zone separating the country's Darfur areas and the Khartoum-Riverine region has over recent weeks become the newest conflict zone in the two-year civil war between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary group.

Substantial Evacuation Statistics

An approximated 36,825 people evacuated from five localities in North Kordofan state between 26 October and 31 October, as reported by the International Organization for Migration.

The individuals, primarily walking, headed to Tawila, a town western side of El Fasher that is currently housing in excess of 652,000 evacuated individuals.

Heightened Forces Deployment

Local inhabitants of North Kordofan on Monday reported a significant increase in both RSF and army concentration across towns and villages throughout the state.

Both armed factions are contesting control of El Obeid, the North Kordofan provincial capital and a key logistics and command center that links Darfur to Khartoum.

"Today, all our forces have converged on the Bara front here," stated an RSF member in a recently circulated video message.

Area Inhabitants Detail Security Concerns

A resident of Um Smeima, located west of El Obeid, reported that the quantity of RSF vehicles had grown significantly since the group's capture of El Fasher.

"We discontinued traveling to our farms, afraid of fighting," the resident commented.

Another civilian, who asked to remain unnamed for protection purposes, also indicated that "there has been a big increase in army vehicles and weapons west and south of El Obeid" over the previous fortnight.

International Warnings and Appeals

A senior UN official expressed concerns last week about "widespread abuses" and "ethnically motivated reprisals" by RSF in Bara.

The representative alerted to patterns echoing those in Darfur, where RSF militants have been alleged to commit mass killings, sexual violence and abductions against specific ethnic communities.

The religious leader on Sunday called for an immediate ceasefire and the establishment of relief routes in Sudan, saying that attacks on civilians and obstacles to humanitarian aid "are producing unacceptable suffering."

Sudan's official envoy to Egypt on Sunday accused RSF of perpetrating war crimes in El Fasher and announced that the Sudanese government would not negotiate with the militia organization.

The representative further encouraged the world nations to classify the group as a terrorist organisation.
