Audiences are thrilled for the horror series Welcome to Derry, that's been receiving positive feedback and incorporating themes from other Stephen King works. Just one day after launch, the network has revealed that the next chapter will premiere ahead of schedule, timed perfectly for October 31st.
Starting on October 31 at 3 a.m. EST, the second episode of It: Welcome to Derry will make its debut on the streaming service, prior to its Sunday HBO premiere. Future chapters of the show's first season will be released on Sundays on both HBO and its streaming arm, building toward the final episode on Sunday, December 14.
Set in the Derry mythology, Welcome to Derry draws from the original story while building upon the world realized by director Andy Muschietti in the recent movie adaptations. The original It highlighted kids and teens battling supernatural evils, thus it's suitable that the prequel upholds that legacy. Yet, the premiere episode of the HBO series proves it intended to escalate the fear, offering even more intense scares than Muschietti’s films and setting a dark atmosphere for what's to come.
Located in the early '60s, this show features a fresh cast of adults and children living in a outwardly charming locale masking a dark secret. This place operates on a cruel, recurring cycle—defined by hostility, discrimination, and otherworldly forces, as a monstrous presence resurfaces once every three decades. Although Welcome to Derry might seem like it skews too close to the movies initially, what distinguishes the digital program is its parallel storytelling—narrated via the eyes of both children and adults concurrently. Younger characters stay highly exposed to the entity's fear, but grown-ups don't escape facing their own nightmares stemming from local discrimination and covert otherworldly powers.
The series premieres on the 31st of October at 3 a.m. EST.
