Week six of the 2025 NFL season
Real-time updates includes live text of Sunday's games on various channels, starting with Denver Broncos v New York Jets at Tottenham (kicking off at 2 PM BST). Also, radio commentary is available through select stations covering a separate game (from 21:00 BST).
It's week six in the football calendar , following last week's talk about the Buffalo Bills and Philadelphia Eagles as a potential Super Bowl match-up, each lost their perfect starts.
Striking during those contests was the number of infractions each committed. The Eagles did so in key moments so they essentially defeated themselves after leading 17-3 going into the fourth period versus the Denver Broncos, set to play overseas this weekend.
However it proved good to observe how Denver quarterback Bo Nix was able to overcome that deficit before lead three scoring drives on three possessions during the final period, securing the victory 21-17.
The Broncos have the top defender with CB Pat Surtain II. They are first in red zone defence, while Philadelphia lead the league in scoring near the end zone, yet the Broncos won that contest.
They had effective strategies regarding simulated pressure. They weren't necessarily sending more than four defenders but they might position two linebackers in the 'A' gap before drop them out and dispatch a slot defender from the outside.
Early on in the campaign, we said on a program that Denver could be this season's surprise contenders. They finished last season strongly then did a good job of building upon that.
Are the Denver Broncos this season's underdog story?
Recently acquired TE Evan Engram has stepped up significantly while recent running back JK Dobbins is a guy they believe in. He's currently fifth league-wide in ground gains (over 400) as well as tied for fourth for rushing touchdowns (4).
It's impressive that head coach Sean Payton displays "RUN IT!" at the top of his playcall sheet.
This demonstrates how the Broncos are a team aiming to prioritize the run, since you can achieve much off the back of that. It slows down the pass rush and maintains in favourable situations.
It's also helped quarterback Bo Nix, who came the NFL as a first-round selection in the prior draft, passing for 29 TDs – second only to a star QB in rookie records (31 in 2020).
Josh Allen and Herbert possess the arm strength to pass all over, however they lack the mobility as Nix. He has incredible arm talent, a unique trait, plus he's highly agile.
His strengths are his movement, being able to throw while moving, as well as using varied release points to make the pass when he rolls out of the pocket, the bootlegs. He can throw that layered pass across the middle or past defenders.
As a rookie QB, at 25, he's got a lot of composure in the pocket and isn't bothered by the blitz. He tries to evade being tackled as much as possible and is able pass under pressure. He has a high football IQ and is very decisive.
When you consistently run the ball it consumes the clock and forces the opponent to stay on the field for longer, and if you have an athletic quarterback the defence has to defend the area vertically and horizontally. This proves draining.
The quarterback has pushed back at Payton during games at times and I think Payton likes that attitude, that he's such a competitor. In my view it's fun for him to coach a rookie QB who's similar to moldable clay. He can truly build something up how he wants to shape him. I believe it's a special experience for him.
Payton owns a Super Bowl and now passed Bill Parcells for career NFL wins (173 - tied 14th overall). He's seen everything. In my opinion the achievements Denver are having offensively is mostly due to his leadership, his play-calling, his game sense – and the pairing with Nix helps shape him what he is.
There's no better a more qualified person in your ear, to assist you during some of the tougher situations and boost confidence.
I believe in the Broncos' defense, in the QB's grit and calm. Yet are they good enough to go against a top squad at its best? Since that was not a Super Bowl performance by the Eagles in their last game.
Right now, I don't think Denver are incredible. They're performing above average, which is a solid position to be in the AFC West. All they need is to continue this path.
They're really good at leaning into their forte, that is the ground game, and that's exactly what they must do against the Jets in London. It will likely be a Dobbins-focused game, in essence.
The Jets have allowed 140 rushing yards per game (among the worst), five ground scores so far (10th worst), and they are the sole squad yet to win any game.
Ever since the NFL began tracking turnovers in 1933, this team are the inaugural squad to go without a single takeaway in five outings, which is kind of shocking when you think that the head coach was previously defensive co-ordinator at the Detroit Lions.
Patrick Mahomes says the Chiefs have 'already lost too many games' after a recent loss by the Jaguars.
Following the upcoming matchup, the Broncos face a manageable slate up to their bye (in week twelve) - the Giants, the Cowboys, the Texans and Las Vegas Raiders prior to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Looking at their division, the Chiefs hold a losing record while Denver are even with the Chargers on 3-2 so they could challenge for the top of the division.
It depends on which form Kansas City shows up they meet because the Broncos {beat|def
