Disaster Strikes as Inadvertent Explosion at Police Station in Indian-administered Kashmir Results in Nine Fatalities

A catastrophic explosion at a police station in Indian-administered Kashmir has caused the deaths of nine people and harm to thirty-two additional people, according to authority reports.

The event happened when a stockpile of impounded blast substances unintentionally detonated during processing activities.

The explosion took place on Friday evening at the Nowgam police station, where blast substances taken from Faridabad region in the northern province of Haryana province were being kept briefly.

Regional law enforcement head stated that the detonation substances were scheduled for technical investigation when a "very unfortunate" accident during processing caused their blast at approximately 23:20 in the evening.

Police Announcements

Security forces asserted that this was an "inadvertent blast" and rather than a militant action. "Any other speculation regarding the cause of this event is unnecessary," stressed the security director during a media conference.

The police station endured extensive destruction from the detonation, with neighboring structures also being affected by the strong explosion.

Aftermath and Casualties

Multiple vehicles were "covered in blaze and turned into burned shells, with wreckage spread across the location," according to police accounts.

"The power of the detonation was such that some body parts were found in adjacent homes, approximately between 100 and 200 meters from the police station," mentioned an police contact.

Most of the fatalities were law enforcement personnel, along with forensic personnel, two investigative imaging experts, and a garment worker who was accompanying the group.

Government Action

The region's Administrative Head stated condolences and announced that an investigation had been commissioned into the tragic incident.

"I have ordered a probe to determine the reason of the accidental explosion. Extremely pained by the fatalities of important persons due to profoundly sorrowful inadvertent detonation at Nowgam police station in Srinagar. My sympathies to the bereaved families. I pray for speedy recovery of the harmed," wrote the leader on digital platforms.
